The Art of Non-Judgment

The Art of Non-Judgment

Hello Friends,

Have you considered areas of your life where you may be a little judgmental?

Like most people, you probably don’t consider yourself to be judgmental. However, if you have ever started a sentence with “I’m not judgmental but, ……” and then fill in the blank, you’re being judgmental.  As if beginning the statement this way removes us from being judgmental. I know it hurts to admit, but don’t we all judge to some degree?

Just because everyone does it, doesn’t make it okay. I’ve long said that our judgments create all our issues, and impact us more than we know. Anger, resentment, and jealousy, to name a few, are feelings that get triggered in us when we judge. The side effect of comparing, labeling and judging creates separation and conflict within. Wherever there is conflict and division, dis-ease to varying degrees, exists.

We judge people for the way they look, what they do, and how they act. We judge others for their religious beliefs, their race, nationality, culture, political affiliation and sexual orientation. It doesn’t atop there. We judge our children, and our parents. We compare the relationship we are in today to relationships from the past.  We compare and continuously judge EVERYTHING without even realizing it.

The reason this is so vital to look at is, aware of it or not, your judgments impact your peace, health and well-being a great deal. For example, one of my patients would get downright irate over people who bought foreign cars. He felt adamant that it was wrong to support foreign car manufacturers. His judgment around this area triggered anger in him every time he drove down the road and saw someone driving a foreign car. We are unconscious of our judgements thinking “it’s just the way I am,” but they affect us deeply.  Anger creates acid in the body and disease can only live in an acid environment, so who does this judgment hurt more than the one harboring it? He had to look at other areas of his life he held similar judgments and beliefs and had to clear them. We must do the same.

William Shakespeare made a very profound statement when writing, “There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.”  Our judgments are simply a construct of the mind and NOTHING MORE.  We have a mental model of how the universe should function and when something happens that doesn’t fit our beliefs, discontent arises. Therefore, what causes suffering are your thoughts ABOUT people, places and conditions, not the people, places and conditions themselves.  As you pay more attention to where, how, and who you are judging, you can release these damaging beliefs about how you and others “should be.” You are then in the position to embrace your uniqueness and theirs, and able to accept yourself and others for who they are, where they are, on the path to self-actualization.

Every great teacher that has walked the Earth has taught, do not judge. If you find yourself judging, don’t judge yourself further for judging!  Acknowledging that we are all works in progress allows us to be much more tolerant of everyone.

My favorite poet, Rumi, is famous for saying, “Out beyond ideas of rightdoing and wrongdoing, there is a field. I’ll meet you there.”  Please join me in creating a field, a place on planet Earth, that supports one and all on the road to fulfillment and Love.  It is my hope that applying “The Art of Non-judgment” will assist you on this journey.

Wishing you a beautiful week!

Peace and Blessings~

"Off and on throughout the past few years, I've come to Pamela for redirection, rebalancing and a sense of finding the inner me, my soul space where love and happiness waits for me...Pamela has aided me and supported me in this journey with safety, love and respect. I still listen to a program of forgiveness she made for those struggling with a wounded heart. A one time pain felt so intensely that it almost paralyzed me; I stumbled across Pamela's website and with Pamela's support I have been able to sit with the pain, experience the pain, let it go and continue on with love and lightness..a wonderful gift and I thank her for her love, dedication and knowledge."

"I am blessed to benefit from the wisdom and loving care of Pamela Gregory.  She is always a source of positive light and generosity.  I admire her immensely.   I came to Pamela at a critical stage in my life when I was considering donating an organ to a loved one.  She helped me understand a greater spectrum of causes that contributed to the dis-ease in my boyfriends body.  Thanks to Pamela, I came to understand that the solution for healing wasn't limited to receiving a new kidney.  And more importantly, a source of the dis-ease could continue to reek havoc even after the transplant.  I also learned that the emotional healing (before and after the surgery) was critical to a successful transplant.  With great gratitude in my heart to Pamela, we are still celebrating the successful transplant that took place on Aug 20, 2014.  We are are both healthy and looking to continue our journey of forgiveness and healing together for many years."

"I have had the opportunity to work with Pamela involving resolving some issues I had with my father around the issue of forgiveness. With Pamela's guidance, I was able to come to terms with how my father and I interacted as father and son and forgive both him and myself for any held onto resentment. She was able to help me find a peace around this issue that I had not been able to find before. Her compassionate nature and loving energy, along with her immense knowledge and skills in guiding me through the process were exactly what I needed to resolve this issue. I highly recommend her should anyone need assistance in finding the peace that only true forgiveness can unlock."

"We were also very fortunate to have her as a guest on Marvelous Mondays with Harry & Phil on several occasions, each time of which, she provided our listeners with timely and insightful knowledge around the issue of forgiveness and how it can bring balance and serenity when it comes to body, mind, and spirit. She is an amazing asset to all who have the honor and privilege to work with and know her!"

“I went to Utopia Wellness in June 2012 for alternative treatment for breast cancer. One big part of my healing process was helping me deal with emotions and situations that happened in my life. Pam, my therapist, was so informative, inspiring and caring. She helped me address issues that were detrimental to my healing and being cancer free. I learned so much from Pam about how to deal with everyday life, that you could not ask for anyone better.”
